BLOG ASSINMENT #1

DID YOU KNOW? 3.0-
This video was very informative and made me think a lot about our ever changing world. Some of the facts were very interesting, one fact that China would be soon the #1 English speaking country in the world and the fact that the top 10 jobs in 2010 did not exist in the year 2004. These are prime examples as to how the world is growing and advancing in technology at alarming rates. It seems as though when a new technology come out you need to learn it fast because in a couple of years they will come up with a new version of the one you are using or they will have a whole new machine that will do what you originally wanted and more! Another shocking fact that i learned was that today's learner will have 10-14 jobs by the time they are 38 years old. This is very shocking to someone who is getting ready to graduate and looking forward to finding a job. Knowing this would be very hard to keep me motivated to go find a job. There is no longer job security and this might prevent a lot of people from trying to start families because they might not have confidence or assurance that they will even have a job.

Mr. Winkle Wakes-
When Mr. Winkle woke he found himself to be in a totally different world. He was in a world that was full of technology and loud, frustrating sounds. He went to a place of business and found that all the technology there was making him sick so he went to a hospital. He had found that the technology there was also a bit much so he left. When he was walking from the hospital he had found a school. He felt very comfortable and safe at this school because there was no technology there and everything was just the same as he remembered how school was. He had seen a computer in the back of the room but, it had dust on it and looked like it had not been used in a while. It is so amazing how funding is always being taken away from education yet, we don't understand why more and more students are not performing at their full capability. I believe if we spent equal of not more amount of time as to how much time and money we spend on other projects such as businesses and hospitals, the students of the united states would have more avenues and options as to how they can retain information or just engage the students.

The Importance of Creativity-
Sir Ken Robinson is a very humorous man. He is explaining how education needs to nurture creativity. He says that education will take us into a future that we cannot grasp. We are educating students for the future, but we cannot predict how the future will be. Children who are graduating now will retire in the year 2065. This fact is overwhelming because one has to think about how the economy will in that year. With the facts that were given in earlier assignments we can see that students need to be educated to their top potential because the need to be able to keep a job. Sir Robinson believes that creativity is just as important as literacy in the world of education. Creativity is different within each child and Sir Robinson feels as though educators need to focus on their students creativity so that do not loose this priceless gift. As educators we should not focus on just having the students memorize information and being able to repeat what was taught. We need to rethink how we educate our students and we need to focus on how we can keep the students engaged and wanting to be a part of their classrooms. By having the students come up with ways to learn creatively, it could be a possibility that the students would have more fun in the classroom and would want to participate more.

Harness your students-
This was a good video to see how teacher are really trying to keep up with their students and what kinds of technology that they use. This teacher is not only helping her students learn but, she is also learning from them because some of the students take it upon themselves to advance and they will learn new things that the teacher did not know she could ever do. This is the perfect way to really engage and get through to her students. As a student who likes technology i would enjoy going to her class everyday.

  1. So how is the best way to prepare for multiple jobs? Some ideas: Don't teach content, teach transferable skills. Always be a learner yourself and instill a desire to learn in your students. I'm not sure I can tell you how to do that, but being a good role model is one way. Another is doing projects which require you and your students to learn together. Another is to reflect on how you learn and what you learned - and to share those reflections with others.

It's not just money. It's what we spend the money on in schools. I want every student to HAVE the tools to connect with all information in all places at all times, and to know how to use those tools. If that were the case I would not worry a whit about what technology was IN schools.

How can you recognize, stimulate and reward creativity in your classroom? Not so easy with the rules you will have to operate under. But try and discover ways around those rules.

"... she is also learning..." Do it!
